I was so inspired by it all, I began to create my own Jarvis at home...

"If I would have known when I first watched Iron Man that it would inspire me to build a business, I would have been so surprised. In it, Tony Stark controls his house thanks to an A.I. called Jarvis. It just seemed so magical, I love that kind of thing. I was so inspired by it all, I began to create my own Jarvis at home. I started a blog called 'Build Your Own Jarvis' and I explained my process step-by-step. It was all free and I kept it open-source. That's how it all began. Two years into working on it, the national news heard about what I was doing. They had me on and gave me two hours to automate a whole house. Later, I threw a party at my college apartment where people could control different aspects of my house by just texting me. It was chaos. All the lights were going on and off, or turning red. Every five seconds I was getting a text. It was the first time I'd had a lot of people try what I was working on and we had a ton of fun. Eventually, I realized that if I wanted to dedicate any more time to it, I'd need to also be making money so I could live. So, I finally decided to monetize the project. Now, not only has my dream of having my own Jarvis come true, but I've also put little Jarvises in the homes of tens of thousands of users."⠀

Super inspiring. Did you know how to program when you started?

I did some programming when I was young, but mostly learnt proper programming all along the way! I just learnt thing when I needed them.

Interesting story @pierregillesl. How did you monetize Gladys?

I started by selling an ebook + a pack of videos for 49€ explaining "how to automate your house".

Then I recently moved to a SaaS subscription model. It's called the "Gladys Community Package", and it's a 9.99€/month subscription which adds features to your Gladys installation (remote access, backups).
